Beware of fake solar reviews

There are plenty of reviews out there for the various solar businesses, but the hard truth is that many of them are not genuine. Hundreds of solar companies advertise online across South East Queensland and Northern New South Wales, yet far fewer actually operate in the region. That gap is where fake testimonials and misleading claims creep in.

It is a real, prosecuted problem

This is not just a hunch. The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) has taken solar companies to court over it. In one Federal Court case, companies trading as Euro Solar and Australian Solar Panel were ordered to pay $125,000 for publishing fake testimonials and making false or misleading representations about where their panels were made.

Why Google reviews are the ones to trust

Testimonials posted on a company's own website are easy to cherry-pick, edit or simply invent. Google reviews are much harder to fake. Google takes reviews seriously and actively removes suspicious content, and the reviews stay public on the company's Google Maps listing for anyone to see, including the bad ones and how the business responded.

How to check a solar company

Before you sign anything, look at the company's Google Maps reviews rather than the testimonials on its own site. Check the volume and how recent they are, read how the business responds to any criticism, and confirm the company actually operates locally rather than just advertising into your area. If the only praise you can find is on the company's own website, be cautious.
